I have mentioned a few times on this blog that I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Recently, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the church and the priesthood.

I have a lot of thoughts about this "Ordain Women" movement and I not quite sure that I can put them all into words right now. I will just say that I believe that revelation within the church comes from God and no amount of protesting or movements are going to change that.

I also feel sad for the women that feel they are mistreated in the church. I have never once felt anything but love and support from the men in the church. I have all the admiration in the world for the men that have lead all of my congregations in the past and those leading it now. I firmly believe they are making choices that they feel are the best for those they are serving and that are inspired by God. I trust them and do not believe they would ever do anything to hurt or marginalize me just because I am a woman. It hurts to think that there are other women that do not have these same positive feelings about the leadership.

I have read a lot of articles on both sides of this debate and I never felt that anyone ever captured the feelings I am feeling about the whole issue. Until I read this post by Alycia. I feel like she expressed just what I am feeling in much better words than I could do on my own.

I love my church and I am so grateful for all of the blessings that have come to me because of my membership in it. It really hurts to see people portraying it in such a negative light. But no matter what people say, I believe in this church and all of its teachings. I know that by following the prophet we will be able to live happier and better lives and that is what I intend to do.

Now I did not get a surprise party but I like to be in charge of things so planning my own party was probably the best solution. But I did still get a surprise.

On Saturday Spencer asked if he could take me to dinner on Monday since he didn't get a chance that weekend and obviously I said yes.

Then Monday rolled around and it was rough. I was babysitting the WHOLE day and by that evening I was totally over everything. I really just wanted to go home and get in my bed.  And then the dad of the family I was babysitting for came home late and so I had about 7 minutes to get home and get ready. By the time Spencer knocked on my door I was just about ready to ask him if we could just go to Taco Bell and then let me go to bed.

But then he showed up with these and somehow I felt instantly better. Seriously, those might be magic flowers.

Anyways, my mood had significantly improved and we were going to one of my favorite restaurants and eating yummy food always puts me in a good mood. Then as we were walking in I saw Andrew and Laurel walking in at the same time. I literally thought they just happened to be at the restaurant at the same time as we did. And then no one even acted like it was weird that they were there. I was really so confused and it  took me like 5 minutes to figure out that Spencer had invited them. Our little party was rounded out with Jeff and Lindsey and it resulted in the most perfect surprise birthday dinner I could have asked for.

So thank you to all of my wonderful friends that came and an extra BIG thank you to Spencer for planning the whole thing without me suspecting a thing.

Golden Birthday!

Guys I am like super depressed that my Golden Birthday is over but it was probably the best day/week ever so I probably shouldn't be complaining.

I took my Maisie to the zoo.

I hung out with lots of lovely friends.

I went to the drive in (which everyone should do more often, super fun and only a tiny bit sketchy haha)

I visited Sarah in Provo and took zero pictures which is really disappointing.

I went to the aquarium and also took zero pictures. Apparently documenting the best week ever was not important to me.

I celebrated my sweet baby sister.

I watched lots of World Cup games.

And finally, #annasgoldenbirthday happened and it was everything I was hoping for and more. I guess that means I can check one more thing off my bucket list

And yes, I did listen to Taylor Swift's 22 approximately a million times.

You want to get on my good side during birthday week? Bring me a surprise cupcake and I promise you will be my favorite.

I'm easy to please.

And last but not least, here is a post all about the food of Maui. I mainly go to Hawaii for the food and I was certainly not disappointed this time.

If you know me at all then you know that fish tacos are my one true love. And this is not an exaggeration.

My future husband will have some big shoes to fill because he will never be able to compete with my love for these tacos. Give me a fish taco and I will always be happy.

Now I have already mentioned the Makawao doughnuts but they deserve another shoutout.

Look how happy I am to be holding a stick doughnut!

The Kihei Cafe is just perfection. There are really no words to describe how good I feel about this place. They have the best breakfast on the earth and I would eat there every day even through it was so hot I almost passed out on the second day we went there.

And now, for the real star of the show. Mama's fish house.

First of all, this is the setting.

Who could ever be mad about eating on the beach???

Now the food.

Maui onion soup

Lobster and crab stuffed mahimahi

Kuau chocolate pie

And I didn't even get a picture of our appetizers.

Mama's is seriously the best food on earth. I have never had anything that I liked better. (except maybe a bourough market grilled cheese) I can not say enough good things about Mama's.

Now that you have seen a small fraction of all the food I ate you will understand why I came home a little pudgy.

In all my visits to Hawaii I have never been to Hana. My family just kind of never got around to it so Courtney and I were really excited to go...except for all the horrible things we heard about the road to Hana. The road was not as bad as I was anticipating but it is definitely not my new favorite road to drive on.

We read in the guidebook to pull off at some random mile marker and start walking up the riverbed. Which was a little nerve wracking at first but super pretty. The walking was worth it when we rounded the corner and saw this.

Seriously so amazing and there were only a few people there. But luckily there was someone to take our picture once we jumped in. (Don't mind the random lady...)

The water was so so cold but it was so worth it to swim in a waterfall!

The picture above might be my favorite picture I took on the whole trip.

We stopped a few more times along the way and saw some really amazing things. I was really really happy we decided to make the drive.

And this black sand beach was amazing!

That is just about the end of my Hawaiian adventures. Literally all we did on the rest of the days is eat, sit by pool, go to the beach, then eat some more, and try to be tan (be sure to compliment me on my tan). It was heaventy but doesn't really lend itself to very good blog posts.

Birthday Week!

My birthday is exactly one week from today...and you know what that means....BIRTHDAY WEEK!!!!

Last years birthday week was super awesome but this year is my Golden Birthday so I have to make it extra special. I have some fun things planned but I am still looking for some more ideas. So, if anyone has any awesome birthday week activites to do I would love some more ideas and some company.

Hooray for birthday week!!!

The Haleakala Crater is one the weirdest/coolest places on earth.

I am pretty sure this is what Mars looks like.

At the Summit it is about 10,000 feet which is kind of crazy high and made me and Courtney joke about having altitude sickness when we went on our little hike up these steps.

Another cool thing about the Crater is that you can see the Big Island from the Summit. You can just barely see the top of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.

Fun fact about Mauna Kea:If you measure it from its base at the bottom of the ocean it is taller than Mt. Everest. And if anyone tries to argue with me about that I will prove that I am right.

Driving down from the Crater we drove right through a cloud.

We also got stuck behind some of the slowest cars on the planet and I was not a happy camper. But I was certainly a happy camper once we got to Makawao (my favorite place on earth) and got some stick doughnuts.

Hooray for doughnuts!!!

This was probably one of my favorite days of the whole trip. We started off by going to Lahaina to have some lunch at Cheeseburger in Paradise. (I deleted my only picture I took of Lahaina but I am pretty sure it is on instagram if you are dying to see it.)

The next part of the plan was to drive to the blowhole but we randomly decided to stop where some cars were parked and we were definitely glad we did.

I am pretty sure we walked into a dream land. I have never seen somewhere so beautiful. I love the forests around Utah but I am pretty sure that I would be perfectly happy living in the rain long as no coconuts fall on me...

It only got better when we got to the end of our walk.

We were at one of the most amazing beaches I have ever seen. And it was just my style. I HATE sand with a passion so a rock beach is heaven to me!

These signs kill me. I think they are hilarious. I was kind of mad that we weren't prepared to snorkel but I guess that just means that I will have to come back!

Seriously though, this was one place on the island that I have never been to and I am super duper glad we decided to make a random pit stop. Cause lets be honest, driving all the way to the blowhole would have been super disappointing if it weren't for this stop.

(the blowhole in all its glory....)

La Perouse

The time has come to tell you all about my trip to Hawaii. Be warned, these posts might take the rest of the summer to complete.  And they may be pretty boring but they are mostly just for me to remember. But I do hope you enjoy them.

One of our first days in Hawaii we went to La Perouse Bay. To get to the Bay you have to drive through the lava field. I didn't take any pictures of the lava fields because I was too busy driving. But this is pretty much what it looks like in every direction.

The lava is not the reason to go, the Bay is the real breadwinner here.

Really all we did this day was take a little walk down the bay and enjoy the sun. Actually, that is basically all I ever want to do in Hawaii. Enjoy the sun and maybe eat some food.

And some proof that I was actually there!

Sometimes you just have really good weekends.

They are bound to be good when they start off with National Doughnut Day!

It also has to be good when I check an item off my bucket list....although I am not quite sure if eating McDonald's in a park counts as a picnic....

And when you mix in a family reunion, soccer games, swimming, and walking the dog you just have a pretty good weekend.

Except when you get roped...

I have one more thing to add to my bucket list.

- get lots of slurpees

Everyone thinks that shaved ice is the way to go in the summer but I promise you that slurpees are better.

And what makes them even better is when you walk to get them so that you don't feel so bad ingesting pure sugar.

So have a wonderful weekend filled with slurpees!

Bucket List.

I recently read this article that was about a doable bucket list. I loved it because I feel like most bucket lists are kind of ridiculous and unattainable. So in the spirit of that, here is my summer bucket list.

- go to the zoo

- go on a hike every week

- go to antelope island

- write more letters/write a missionary every week

- go out to eat by myself

- have the best "golden birthday" ever
(if someone wants to throw me a surprise party I would not be mad, hint hint)

- visit Ivy in New York

- cook at least three recipes from my pintrest board
 (and cook something every week)

- take my dog on lots of walks

- have another "fancy friday"

- go to lagoon

- make some sort of craft project

- go camping

- read a book a week

- go on a road trip

- have a picnic

- movie marathon

- do a photo a day project

- go to a Bee's game

- go "unplugged" at least one day a week

- talk to a new person every week

- go to a yoga class

- go to the temple once a week
(and visit 3 new temples)

- play lots of tennis

And I am sure I will add more as the summer goes. If you have any more ideas for me to do or you want to join me on some activities I would LOVE to have some company!

Hooray for the best summer ever!

I keep saying that I will tell you all about Hawaii but at the rate I am going that may never happen and right now I have something more important to say.

Are You Satisfied? by Marina & The Diamonds on Grooveshark

Anyways, the main quote from that song that I like is "Are you satisfied with an average life?". That is something I have been thinking a lot about. And I don't think that I am satisfied with an average life right now.  I want to have a spectacular life. But not in the way that I want everyone to think my life is spectacular, I just want to think my own life is spectacular.

I think a spectacular life can mean different things for everyone. I am not quite sure what it means for me yet but I intend to find out.

I just finished reading the book Looking for Alaska by John Green (the author of The Fault in Our Stars). In this book that main character goes to a new school to "seek a great perhaps". He is ready to start his life and stop living the way he has been living.

I feel like I am ready to do the same thing.

I am ready to find out what my great perhaps is and make my life spectacular.

I'm not quite sure how I am going to do that but I have hope that I can.
